Citi-FT Financial Education Summit

Since 2007, the Pearson Foundation has been a proud sponsor of the Citi-FT Financial Education Summit. Organized by the Citi Foundation, the Pearson Foundation, and the Financial Times, this international gathering gives community leaders from around the world the opportunity to discuss how to boost financial literacy levels by tailoring financial education programs to meet the needs of local communities.

Each year, participants take part in forums and work groups in which they identify and share best practices in content development and delivery. They also explore effective multi-sector partnerships among governments, educational establishments, the private sector and non-profit organizations.

This year’s summit, Mind Over Money: Influencing Positive Financial Behavior, will break new ground by focusing on the psychology behind personal financial decision-making and the ways in which the application of behavioral economics to financial education program design could lead to more effective outcomes.

During this year’s conference—to be held December 1-2 in Sydney, Australia—more than 300 representatives of non-profit organizations, financial institutions, government agencies/regulators, multilateral institutions, microfinance institutions, consumer advocacy groups, educational organizations and private business leaders will have chance to:

  • Learn about some of the best financial literacy initiatives focused on savings, debt management, retirement, investing, financial planning and asset building

  • Gain insights into how advances in behavioral economics can improve financial capability in both developed and developing countries

  • Explore how generational, cultural and socio-economic differences affect consumer financial behavior

  • Discuss ways to design more efficient and scalable financial education programs around the world

In previous years, the Pearson Foundation has been a co-organizer and supporter of similar events held in New Delhi, India (in 2007); Beijing, China (2008), and Singapore (2009).
