Jordan Education Initiative
The Pearson Foundation is proud to have been an early partner of the Jordan Education Initiative, an effort in which we took part at the request of the United States State Department’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).
Working together with the Cisco Learning Institute and Teachscape, we developed a state-of-the-art English-Language-Learning curriculum based on Pearson Education’s best-selling “Longman English Interactive” learning program. This Jordanian-specific application was distributed to Jordanian educators and classrooms using the Cisco Learning Institute’s “Virtuoso Learning System.” Prior to launch, the Pearson Foundation and Pearson Longman participated from the start in the design, implementation, and support for this new, dynamic, digital curriculum.
ESL training is one of four key discipline focal points for the Jordan Education Initiative, which supports the Jordanian government's vision of building a knowledge economy by providing lifelong learning opportunities for all Jordanian citizens. This unique private-public partnership represents an opportunity not only to improve the lives of Jordanians, but also to serve as a model for educational reform around the world.
The Middle East Partnership Initiative is a Presidential initiative founded to support economic, political, and educational reform efforts in the Middle East and champion opportunity for all people of the region, especially women and youth. The initiative continues to link Arab, US, and global private sector businesses, non-governmental organizations, civil society elements, and governments together to develop innovative policies and programs that support reform in the region.
